"If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point that the world and the devil are at the moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ and to be steady on all the battlefield  besides is merely flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point."    Martin Luther

4 November 2012

Dear Friends of AFF,

The assault on the foundations of the family is raging, perhaps like never before in man’s history, yet we are silent.  Ps 11:3 asks, “If the foundations be destroyed what can even the righteous do?”   The foundations are being severely battered today in Australia and we can ill afford to be silent any longer.

Horrendous attacks on the foundations of the family, traditional morality and Christianity are occurring all around us.  The foundations of the family are being undermined and anti-God policies abound: legal prostitution; homosexual marriage; homosexuality taught to children as safe, natural, normal and healthy; women in front-line combat; X-Rated porn in Canberra; porn magazines displayed to and available for children; sex shops gaining approval; corporate financing of porn in the family marketplace, etc.

CS Lewis once wisely said, “You aim for the heavens and you get the earth thrown in, aim for the earth and you get neither.” We all need to lift our vision and aim for the heavens. Legal sex trafficking (aka prostitution) will only be halted by “militant defenders of Biblical morality,*” NOT by those who defend the latest quirky policy position from some obscure secular authority. We who serve a Living God have a better guide than reason - it is called “His Word” - and it alone is to be our standard! Demand that your MPs represent you in parliament and outlaw ALL forms of prostitution: the selling of illicit sex, the purchasing of illicit sex and the facilitating of illicit sex. I am including our concise submission concerning prostitution. Your state MPs need to hear from you  c/- Parliament House, Your Capital City. You can also select ‘lobbying’, click on your state and email each and every state MP. Use our data to reinforce your opposition to prostitution but really all you have to say is you want NO form of sex trafficking/prostitution to be legal.

The same sex marriage battle is also battering the foundations of the family. We, as Christians, cannot OK any occasion to sin. We cannot embrace the ‘same sex civil registry’.  Just as OK-ing any form of legal prostitution permits the sin of prostitution, permitting any form of homosexual union OKs sin. All of us with a Biblical Christian Worldview must stand firmly against any and all forms of sin while extending the invitation to repentance. Martin Luther correctly said, “The fact that you may not succeed should never deter you from doing what is right.”

Former US porn producer Donny Pauling stated at the Canberra Roundtable Summit on Pornography and Sex Trafficking that porn has become so mainstream that “young people now sit around at home with their parents watching porn. The actors don’t always take their clothes off but it is porn nonetheless.” I was shocked and he is correct.  I am including a link above this letter to brief report about my participating in this important summit. You can look here and hear my latest national radio interview concerning this Roundtable Summit.

The sale, hire and display of X Rated porn has been banned in each and every state yet X Rated porn is pouring out of Canberra (and to a lesser extent the Northern Territory). It is spreading its perversion all across this great land and destabilising the foundations of the family. It is decimating Aboriginal families and depicts women as nothing more than sexual merchandise. It is now empirically proven that X rated porn causes rape and sexual molestation and it is past time for a civilised government to place the same simple restrictions on X Rated porn in Canberra as already exists in all of our states. ALL Federal MPs can be mailed c/- Parliament House Canberra ACT 2600 or emailed through our website, the Prime Minister especially. The Australian Constitution mandates that the Federal Government rules the Territories.  Ask those in the Federal Govt to place the same simple restrictions on X rated porn in the Territories as already exist in each and every state in Australia.  Ask them, “If not, why not?” and let us know what they say.

I continue to go where asked and share our good news stories, victories and successful strategies. When can I come to your church, community or school and help fight this ‘winnable war’? It is winnable but it must be fought to be won.  There are some links, above, to some material concerning a recent successful trip in Victoria.

Queenslanders need to contact Campbell Newman, Parliament House, Brisbane 4000 and ask him to protect the children in his state from the unrestricted sale, access and display of porn. Aust Penthouse is placed in a category by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) that is legally sold to, openly displayed to and freely accessed by children in Queensland. This is dangerous and wrong.  Campbell Newman can protect the children at any time. The Qld Atty Gen has already contacted me and thanked me for my detailed submission concerning this.  You can remind Premier Newman that he can protect the children in his state from unrestricted access to dangerous pornographic material by implementing Jack Sonnemann’s sensible proposal.  Can we count on other Christian groups in Queensland to support us on this issue? We pray so.

Tasmanians, South Australians and Western Australians need to contact state MPs and ask them to please protect women by outlawing ALL forms of prostitution, not just the purchasing of illicit sex. Imagine only outlawing the purchasing of heroin and leaving the sellers and distributors alone? Or imagine only arresting the underage purchasers of tobacco or alcohol and leaving the sellers alone? If prostitution is OK then embrace all forms of it, if it is wrong then proscribe all forms of it. It really is that simple.

We are excited about the new ministry begun by my daughter and son-in-law, www.PilgrimHill.org in Tasmania. We also have a new postal address: PO Box 81, Kingston Beach 7050. Please look around our website and the Pilgrim Hill website and pray for both ministries to progress and continue to be well-received by Christian leaders and the public.

The foundations of the family are being eroded in Australia today like never before. We can best stand against this by being “militant defenders of Biblical morality”. God is a God of His Word and He says He will honour it above His very name! We can stand on the Word of God, believe Gal 6:9 “let us not grow weary in well doing” and watch what happens when we persevere and bring Jesus into these dark situations!

Our finances are a bit woeful at the moment; we do this full time and we rely on your help. I am including our bank details to make it easy for you. Thanks so much for helping us firmly resist the assault on the foundations of the family today.  God bless you for your help.

In Him,

Jack

Dear Friends of AFF,

This newsletter is challenging and full of good news that you will not hear elsewhere. Download or write to us for your copy of our new "Action Procedure Manual" to give you quick access to the ammunition you nees to fight - and win - this "winnable war."

I just returned from an amazingly successful few days of meetings in Wagga Wagga. I addressed grades 9 - 12 in a Christian College;  when the recess bell rang, the students asked their teachers if I could continue!  The Mayor, pastors, teachers, councillors and other leaders came to the Community Leaders' Breakfast (they had to set up two additional tables!) and I was very excited about the response from the entire series of well-attended meetings.  The organisers were rapt.  Praise God!

I have a similar series of meetings scheduled in Ballarat in June where I will be addressing a Men's Conference, church services and a public meeting.  Contact me about coming to your community with our encouraging message.  Everyone could use some encouragement!

For the rest of April and early May I will be in the US.  I am meeting with Don Wildmon at the HQ of the American Family Association and will be interviewed on his American Family Radio Association across the US.  His listeners are just as excited to hear of you battles and victories as we are!

I will also be meeting in the US with the directors of Bsafe Online about the possibility of installing what has been called "the world's best family filtering software" on Australia's public school and library computers.

Please pray for Margaret and Christina as they "hold down the fort" while I am away.  Our bills continue to mount as we become even more effective in this battle for family values.  The cultural war is raging all around us and we thank you so much for helping us raise God's standard and fighting it so effectively.  Your help is deeply appreciated.

RU486:

the Victory that no one noticed…

In the aftermath of the highly publicised battle over RU486, we have both good and bad news.  However, we at AFF believe that we have won an impressive victory against RU486 here in Australia because of the massive public outcry against the drug!

 The Bad News

Our representatives refused to represent us.  Thousands of letters and hundreds of submissions against RU486 were ignored by those elected to represent us.  Our Senators and MPs voted to remove parliamentary oversight of this human pesticide and placed it in the category of a therapeutic” item.  The Therapeutic Goods Administration should never have been given authority to even look at RU486 because it is NOT therapeutic”.  Its  purpose is to kill!

The Good News

The pro-life campaign was so effective that drug companies have so far shown extreme reluctance to market the drug in Australia!  The TGA requires a payment of almost one million dollars to trial a drug.  Because of the scale of public outcry against RU486, it now seems unlikely that a drug company will come up with so much money to trial RU486 in Australia.  The Sunday Telgraph on February 26 2006 quoted a source close to the drug companies as saying it's not particularly clever to register such a medicine (RU486) when we're going to get a range of groups capable of generating a lot of publicity targeting the whole industry,

Take heart: your letters may have had no effect on our “representatives”, but they have been noted with great seriousness by those who would otherwise seek to market RU486 in this country.   This is another example of God’s faithfulness.  If we walk in the good works He has prepared for us we will see good fruit from them sooner or later.  He requires us to be obedient, not all-powerful.

...and a Battle

that no one predicted.

The Sunday Telegraph also reported that the Cairns-based medico who helped spark the RU486 debate, Dr Caroline de Costa, is working flat out to try to get around the effective continuing ban on the drug by the pharmaceutical industry.”

Perhaps, then, it should come as no surprise that Dr de Costa appears in the media in association with RU486 on another frontier: the contraceptive market.  The Australian newspaper of March 29 2006 carried a prominent article on the testing of a new contraceptive pill that is a low-dose version of RU486, enthusing that it holds the promise…of eliminat[ing] pre-menstrual syndrome” and reduc[ing] the risk of breast cancer.

According to this article, “Professor de Costa helped spark the RU486 debate by writing to the Therapeutic Goods Administration last year, seeking approval to use the banned abortion drug.”  She said, “I think now that we no longer have the ban, we will start to see it be tested for various uses.”

Later in the article, the drug is touted as having the potential to treat various conditions - treatments for which it was not designed.  Never mind that all of this is glorified guesswork.

Is it possible that this positive coverage of RU486 is simply a ploy to change the image of what has been correctly called “the human pesticide”?  Advocates of the drug are desperate to repair the bad image which makes it unappealing to the major pharmaceutical companies who import drugs for Australian consumption. Dr de Costa seems likely to import the drug privately on a small scale, but we can be effectively prevent the wide distribution of RU486 by a pharmeutical company.

Background on the human pesticide”

As it has been unable to find an American or European manufacturer or distributor, RU486 is made in China just outside Shanghai by a drug maker cited by the US Food and Drug Administration for producing “tainted drugs”.  China has banned the drug, not because it causes an abortion, but because it kills the women who take it!  The company, Danco Pharmaceuticals, produces no other product and is headquartered in the tax haven of the Cayman Islands by a disbarred lawyer and convicted forger (see Lonely death in chilly places by Charles Francis, Herald Sun 16/2/06).

Two steps are necessary in this death procedure.  48 hours after taking RU486, an injection is needed.  The injection of Cytotec (Misoprostol), manufactured by the reputable R. G. Searle Company, then completes the RU486 death process.  (The Searle Co has given repeated warnings that Cytotec is a drug unsuitable for abortions.)

Several women have bled to death in trials of RU486.  Canada banned the drug and further trials.

After a woman died in France, the French banned the trials on anyone under 18 or those who are smokers.

Legal action is being prepared against the whole procedure in the US because of deaths of women trialing the drug.(Two more deaths in March 2006) Although touted as a “safe” alternative for Australian women living in the bush, the US requires that those who take it be no more than 1 hour from a hospital that has complete resuscitation and transfusion facilities! Tony Abbott, our Federal Minister of Health should be congratulated for his principled stand against this drug.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is effectively financed by the drug companies and have approved such destructive goods as Thalidomide (we all know about thalidomide babies), Ritalin (caused the sudden death of a seven-year-old and a five-year-old in Australia), Dexamphetamine for ADHD (the US Food and Drug Administration is reviewing 90 studies to determine whether ADHD drugs were linked to the deaths of 25 people) and other deadly drugs in the past.

ACTION:
1. We must assure the pharmaceutical companies that we are fully prepared to boycott any company that markets/distributes RU486.  We’ve been given this “ground” - let’s keep it. Please write to Managing Director Mr John Young  (and/or to Heather Jones, Manager of Marketing Strategies) at:  Medicines Australia; Level 1; 16 Napier Close; Deakin ACT 2600   Ph 02 6282 6888 Fax 02 6282 6299 Email  info@medicinesaustralia.com.au

2. Please thank Hon Tony Abbott, MP, Parliament House Canberra 2600 or via our website.  Simply go to our "lobby" page on our website  then click Federal MPs

3. In the back of this newsletter we are listing ALL MPs and Senators who voted for and against this human pesticide.  We are asking ALL our readers to thank those in defense of the lives of Australian women and children.  Also remind those who represent us and defend Australian women and children that we cannot, in good conscience, vote for them in the future!  This is serious!

ACT Introduces Same Sex Recognition

The ACT Legislative Assembly introduced laws on 28 March 2006 to offer homosexual couples the same rights as heterosexual couples.  The Federal Govt has already outlawed same-sex marriage yet the Far Left-leaning ACT Assembly is thumbing its nose at the Federal Govt and giving the full suite of rights to homosexuals that heterosexuals enjoy.  The Examiner in Tasmania of 29 March 2006 says this law even goes further than the earlier Tassie same-sex union register.    Please order our homosexual fact pack and look at all facts from medical journals, scientific studies, nursing magazines and other peer-reviewed scientific journals outlining the negative health impacts of homosexual behaviour.

ACTION:  John Howard has come out publicly in defence of the family and against this action by the ACT Assembly.  Thank him and ask his office how you can help. Write c/- Parliament House, Canberra ACT 2600 or email from the AFF website  Educate yourself.  The government is proving more and more that we cannot expect them to act in our best interests.  We must arm ourselves with the truth and speak this truth in a united way so that we can no longer be ignored.

TELEVISION:  The Great Promoter of Violence

The Sydney Morning Herald quotes R Power, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Macquarie University as saying, “If there was no relationship between what is modelled on the screen and the behaviour of people, we would not have advertising campaigns.”  He says television is teaching people, “mostly men, that violence is a solution.”

Professor Kenneth Hirsch from California State University said his studies had found, “children who took a long time [differentiating] between real and make-believe TV images would often end up in institutions.”  Prof Hirsch has compiled data from as far back as 1968 and has documented “at lease three consequences that have been empirically (based on scientific fact, not on theory) linked to viewing media violence.”  They are, “violent behaviour, distorted perceptions of reality and a tolerance of real-life aggressive behaviours.”

Prof Anne Albright from the University of Pennsylvania says, “research proved children who watch a lot of violence on TV were more likely to become criminals that those who were protected from violent images on the screen.”

The Washington Post published “Primal Screen, Kids: TV, Violence and Real-Life Behaviour” in April 1992 and looked at a 24-year-long television-violence research project at the University of Illinois.  They found “the continued viewing of television violence by children can have a lasting effect on their character and personality, leading to serious criminal behaviour and antisocial violence of all types.”  The researchers, Psychologists Leonard Eron and Rowell Huesmann, stated “the best single predictor we have as to how aggressive a young person would be at age 19 is the violence of the television programs that he preferred when he was eight years old.”

Internationally respected researcher George Gerbner’s studies at the University of Pennsylvania have demonstrated that the more time a child spends living in the world of television violence, the more he or she tends to give a distorted, “television answer” in response to questions about life events.

A perfect example of this “television answer” is a recent study of adolescents in Vancouver Canada.  They were asked about their perceptions of police behaviour.  The Vancouver Police Department, parenthetically, is one of the least violent in the world and did not fire a single shot at, much less wound or kill anyone, during the period studied.  The adolescents who were the heaviest viewers of television reported the Vancouver Police to have killed and wounded numerous people, innocent bystanders as well as criminals.  This study is a powerful illustration of the phenomenon of the “television answer”.

New study proves...

 TELEVISION:   The Great Promoter

of Underage Sex

The Journal of Adolescent Health (March 2006) found in a new report that “TV is the single biggest influence on the sexual habits of the young.”  I have the report before me entitled “The mass media are an important context for adolescents’ sexual behaviour” by Kelly Ladin L’Engle, Ph. D, MPH, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Her paper concludes, “Adolescents who are exposed to more sexual content in the media, and who perceive greater support from the media for sexual behaviour, report greater intentions to engage in sexual intercourse and more sexual activity.  Mass media are an important context for adolescent’s sexual socialization, and media influences should be considered in research and interventions with early adolescents to reduce sexual activity.”

According to an article in the Sunday Tasmanian, 26 March 2006,  “A damning verdict has been delivered on the power of television in encouraging sexual behaviour among teenagers.  Researchers found that 13-year-olds who watched programs with sexual themes were the most sexually active or the keenest to become so.”

Media is more important than religious and school influences  This makes media the biggest single environmental factor influencing teenagers’ decisions on when to engage in sexual activity and how far they would go”, according to Dr L’Engle (emphasis ours).

The article continues by saying, “Dr L’Engle said TV was regarded by teenagers as a ‘super peer’ to provide information about sex.  The majority of sexual content in the media depicts risk-free recreational sexual behaviour between non-married people.  Viewers are more likely to adopt behaviour depicted by characters who are perceived as attractive and realistic and who are not punished but rewarded for their behaviour.”

As noted in the previous article, Gerbner found that the heaviest viewers of television are the most likely to give a “television answer” in response to questions about life events.  Similarly, the heaviest consumers of pornography, when asked about their perceptions of sexuality and dispositions about sexual behaviour are the most likely to give a “pornography answer”.  It has now been proven that adolescents find the answers to their sexual questions and form their important sexual decisions based on the media.

Our readers can Google “Kelly Laden L’Engle” and click on “news” for the few places where we have found this groundbreaking research paper to have been reported.  Is the “media elite” blacklisting these findings?

Homosexual activist demands
Red Cross take “gay” blood
Homosexual activist Rodney Croome is urging the Red Cross to review its sensible ban on accepting blood donations from homosexual men.  According to The Mercury of 23 March 2006 “The Red Cross will not take blood from men who have had male-to-male sex in the past year”.

Why does the Red Cross refuse to accept blood donations from homosexuals?  Homosexuality is taught in our state schools as a safe, healthy, natural lifestyle.  Is it possible that the homosexual lifestyle is actually unhealthy and unsanitary?  Could it be even deadly?  Could the it be that the Red Cross refuse their blood because the Human Papillomaviros (HPV), which is a collection of 70 + types of viruses (more than 20 of which are incurable STDs) that can infect both men and women is “almost universal” among homosexual men with over 60% of HIV negative men carrying it (all HIV positive men carry it)?

According to the San Jose Mercury News, the Syphilis rate in the US is 11 cases per 100,000 yet in San Francisco, the gay rights capital of the US, the rate skyrockets to 240 cases per 100,000; more than 20 times the national average.  The San Francisco Examiner reports that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors is worried that “the tuberculosis rate in San Francisco is 5 times the national average…”.  Their Department of Public Health “attributed the higher-than-average tuberculosis rate to the rise of TB among people with HIV.”

When they refuse blood from homosexual donors could the Red Cross sensibly be relying on reputable, peer-reviewed scientific journals?  The New England Journal of Medicine, in an article entitled, “Sexual Transmissions of Hepatitis A in Homosexual Men”, found that “Among male homosexuals, these diseases (Amebiasis, Girdiasis, Shigellosis, and Hepatitis A) are rampant because of oral-anal practices involving the ingestion of faecal material.”

ACTION: Please encourage the Red Cross (AFF Dir Jack Sonnemann has helped raise funds for the Red Cross with some of his famous quilt exhibitions) to continue theirprincipled stand and not allow homosexuals to donate blood.  Australian Red Cross, PO Box 196 Carlton Vic 3053  ph: 03 9345 1800 Fax: 03 9348 2513   Email: redcross@redcross.org.au

Is Islam a Religion of Peace??

The Australian of 24 March 2006 said “Muslim nations must show the tolerance they demand.”  The editorial mentions the now famous case of a former Muslim, Abdul Rahman, at that date under death sentence for his “crime” of converting from Islam to Christianity.  The Australian newspaper courageously continued, “Rahman, 41, was arrested last month after police found a Bible in his home and, like Christian martyrs of yesteryear, he has steadfastly refused to renounce his faith – even if it means imprisonment and execution.”  Afgani President Hamid Karzai “tramples on religious freedom while holding open the door to the further killing of others on the basis of their confession.”

“…the treatment of Christian and other religious minorities in these (Muslim) lands is often disgraceful – even as Islamic leaders plead for tolerance of their own beliefs in the West.  In Saudi Arabia, Christians aren’t even allowed to worship; in Indonesia, three Christian schoolgirls were recently beheaded by locals for their faith; in Nigeria, Pakistan and many other countries, churches have been burned and Christians killed in sectarian riots often triggered by the mere rumour of insult to Islam.”  (Interestingly, we ‘intolerant’ Christians did not kill anyone or bomb anything when many felt the Lord was ridiculed by Ron Barassi walking on water at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.  One can only imagine what would have happened if Islam’s prophet had been portrayed in such a manner.)

“Treasurer Peter Costello was recently criticised for saying Islamic sharia law is not welcome in Australia; the case of Abdul Rahman showed why he is right.” The Australian

Ecstasy and Speed set

to “Swamp” Australia

Once again we are world leaders.  For years we have lead the world in rape and youth suicide. Now, according to reports from the UN World Drug Report, Australians are the world’s biggest users of ecstasy and second-biggest users of speed.  Almost twice as many Australians use ecstasy (3.4 per cent) as the next highest nationality, the British (2 per cent).

“Australia’s leading police and criminal intelligence agencies admit they have been unable to meaningfully disrupt the availability of ecstasy and amphetamines and are about to be swamped with illicit synthetic drugs.  The Australian has obtained police intelligence reports from around the country that say Australians are the world’s number 1 users of ecstasy and number 2 users of amphetamines per capita.”  The Australian 27 March 2006

ACTION: Contact the Prime Minister, Federal Police Minister, Customs Minister or Attorney General through our website  or write to them at Parliament House Canberra, ACT, 2600 and let them know that the public in general and you in particular support strong action against those who import and distribute illegal drugs.  Tougher sentencing, more laws, tighter border controls, more money for Customs Officers etc.  Ask them to do whatever is best for Australia to better combat the war against drugs and let them know we will support them.

Newsagents Not Required

to Sell or Display Smut

When AFF Director Jack Sonnemann was in Wagga Wagga NSW (see insert) The National Newsagent Magazine explained to an enquirer about their new policy on the display and sale of smut magazines like Picture, Penthouse, Hustler etc.  The newsagent does not have to display or sell any magazine sent to them.  They do have to accept delivery of magazines in lots that may contain Women’s Day, Car and Driver, and Penthouse but if they do not want to display or sell Penthouse they simply keep them in the back room, send them back to the distributor (which is exactly what they do with all unsold newspapers) and the distributor simply refunds the money.

Although their new “official policy” is that newsagents should sell even magazines to which they have a conscientious objection, the newsagent cannot be forced to display or sell anything they do not want to!  Unfortunately, the waiting time for their refund is 60 days.  However, if a distributor sees that a particular newsagent always sends back all of the copies of People, Penthouse, etc, the distributor will see that it is in his best interests to no longer send those magazines to that retailer.  Understand?

Please speak to your local smut peddler and ask if they will please stop selling pornography in your community.  Not only is it objectionable, degrades ALL women and gives all Australians, especially children, a false, callous and hypersexualised view of women, pornography causes rape – it is no longer arguable.

The 60-day wait for a refund is a real sacrifice, so please support any newsagencies or shops that take a pro-family, pro-child stand.

Get the local churches and business groups to frequent their shop and perhaps, as others are doing, get the Mayor (or an MP...or your club...or…?) to publicly present an award to the shop as a “Family Friendly” shop.  That will get the Mayor’s picture in the paper (you’ll have a friend for life) and will show the community that someone actually cares about what is displayed to, sold to and accessed by Aussie kids.

ACTION:  Speak nicely to a local smut shop and encourage them to stop selling smut.  Once they do, please let us know so it becomes a national event and the shop is rewarded by an increase in their sales

Australia Tops World in Sex Crimes – Again

AFF has been reporting for years that international surveys from the International Court of Justice at the Hague, Interpol, our own Institute of Criminology, the Home Office in London, the Japanese Foreign Ministry and others have placed Australia #1 on the world’s list for rape.

On 29/3/06 a new report was released from an international group called the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD).  “Australians are more likely than people in any other developed nation to find themselves a victim of a serious crime, including sex crimes.” Between 1990 and the latest figures available this report showed that Aussies are more likely to be sexually assaulted and violently assaulted than in any other developed country!  This is an international disgrace and must be reversed.  Reduction in pornography equals a reduction in rape.  The New Scientist had a cover story entitled “The Power of Pornography” and found that a 2 percent increase in porn equalled a 1 per cent increase in rape.  Likewise they cited studies where a reduction in porn equalled a reduction in rape.  Even a restriction in the way pornographic magazines were displayed resulted in a reduced rape rate.

ACTION:  Take the actions we list in this AFF Journal, don’t listen to the well-paid apologists from the porn industry who insist no one is influenced by what they see, and watch Australia become a safer and more porn free place to raise Australian children.

Pornography and sex crimes: what we know but ignore

ˇ        Dr Don Thompson, Victorian Barrister and Chairman of Forensic Psychology at Monash University in an address to the Victorian Criminal Justice Symposium says, “…pornography is causally related to sexually violent behaviour.”

ˇ        Victorian Crown Prosecutor Richard Read who deals regularly with pornography and sex crimes says, “There definitely is a very clear link between the two.”

ˇ        The Canadian Fraser Commission on Pornography and Prostitution found “commonly available, non-violent pornography had a substantially greater impact than violent pornography.”

ˇ        US Dept of Justice National Task Force on Child Exploitation and Pornography stated “The connection between pornography and violent sex related crimes, including the rape of women and molestation of children have been proven by scientific research and hard data.  The connections between pornography and rape are no longer supposition.”

ˇ        Northern Territory Supreme Court Justice Sir William Kearney says, “People who think there is no connection between pornography and the violent and bizarre crimes that come before the courts ought to do the case studies.”

ˇ        Melbourne Central Criminal Court, Mr Justice O’Brien sentenced the rapist of a 12-year-old girl and stated, “Despite what some psychiatrists and others say, the danger of pornographic material becomes more apparent to those of us who have to deal with these crimes.

ˇ        Inspector Sprague of the Spectrum Task Force in Melbourne set up to investigate the ‘Mr Cruel’ schoolgirl abduction, sexual molestation and murder says, “There’s a strong connection between pornography and the amount of sex crimes we get.

What Can We Do?

Internet Pornography
Something can be done! 12/4/06 Tasmanian Senator Guy Barnett announced an upcoming trial of ISP level filtering for all of Tassie, to begin in mid-2006. If you live in Tasmania, you will need to "opt in" (ask your provider to be included in) the trial.

When this trial proves successful (and we have no doubts that it will), the country needs to follow suit and require that all providers use filtering systems. Telstra and Optus are dragging their feet on this issue and we need to contact their CEOs and let them know that Australians are concerned about internet content filtering. More good news: the national filter proposed by Senator Barnett would cover mobile phones as well!

Communications Minister says price to protect our children is too high
A plan to establish a national Internet filter has won support from both the Labour Party and 62 Coalition Senators and MPs, says The Australian of 22 March 2006. The Sydney Morning Herald reported on March 21 that "Under the 'clean feed' system, pioneered in Britain, users would be unable to access any content banned by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) because it contained graphic sexual or violent material, rated R or higher."

Kim Beazley said that "research suggests that the exposure of children and others in the community to this sickening content can lead to aggression towards women and child abuse." Research doesn't just suggest it, it proves it. How long has AFF been telling people this? Maybe our elected representatives are finally beginning to consider the facts.

But Communications Minister Helen Coonan has sided with Internet Industry Association chief executive Peter Coroneos in opposing the plan. Apparently, Minister Coonan thinks the price is too high to protect Australian families from child pornography and other atrocities via the Internet. "A national filtering system could cost $45million to set up and a further $33million a year to maintain, she said." (The Australian.)

Rightly, Senator Guy Barnett said the high cost of the scheme "could be seen as a small price to pay to protect our children". Amen to that! Or are we happy to spend 1 billion Australian dollars on the Commonwealth Games celebrations, but not a fraction of that amount to protect young Australians from the worst depravities and dangers of the Internet

We, at AFF, use Bsafe Online. You can download a free trial from our website.is hailed by computer industry magazines as the best family filtering service available is endorsed and used by Dr Don Wildmon with American Family Radio, American Family Online and the American Family Association’s newsletter the AFF Journal.Wildmon, a close friend of AFF, has been called one of the 10 most influential men in American advertising!Don Wildmon did not think Bsafe was the best filtering service available he would not use it or endorse it.is also endorsed by Promise Keepers (a huge men’s Christian ministry in theUS), Campus Crusade for Christ and others.use it, we recommend it, and if you have a computer and want to keep your family safe, we strongly recommend you use it too!

ACTION: Support the plan to install national Internet filters.

1.Now is the time to contact Mr Howard and your federal MPs and tell them that no price is too high to protect our children. What else do we pay taxes for, if not to secure a healthy and safe future for our community? As always, you can use the Click and Lobby  feature here on our website to contact the Prime Minister, your Senators and MPs.

2. Although Communications Minister Helen Coonan wrongly believes that a filter will slow down your internet browsing experience, she has come out against the proposed .xxx "adult content domain" and we need to encourage her to continue to oppose it. Ask her to support a national internet filter.

3. All readers please contact Telstra and let them know that you want internet content filtering at an ISP level. Tasmanian readers: mention your support of Senator Barnett's internet filter trial. Write to: CEO Sol Trujillo [or Telstra Corp Chief Executive Sol Trujillo]; Telstra; 242 Exhibition St, Melbourne VIC 3000. You can ring Telstra on 1300 368 387 but writing to the CEO will be much more effective.

Ditto Optus: CEO [or Chief Executive Officer] Paul O'Sullivan; 101 Miller St, North Sydney NSW 2060; ph 02 9342 7800 fax 02 9342 7100

4. Install Bsafe on your family and work computers until the nation-wide filtering program is in place.

Television
Did you know that free-to-air television in Australia is worse than in the US? There are a lot of misconceptions about America (prostitution is legal in only ONE small city outside Las Vegas and the covers of porn magazines are displayed openly nowhere in the US). Some of what is shown on Australian TV would land American broadcasters in jail! The US rates about midway in countries of the world where records are kept concerning rape and sexual assault – Australia tops the list.We can change all of that if we are willing to get involved in this ‘winnable war’!

A success story that shows we can win

American advertisers and American smut producers have more money and resources than their Australian counterparts. So why is it worse here? The answer lies with ordinary families and individuals like you. In the past, we have failed by allowing American smut merchants to openly flood Australia with products that are not tolerated in the family marketplace in their own country!

The good news is that this is slowly changing. The OFLC had twice as many complaints in 2005 as they did in 2004. This shows that ordinary Australians are taking responsibility for what influences their culture. The smut peddlers rely on our complacency and approval to operate as they do. It is up to us to show them - by our letters, emails, phone calls and consumer dollars - that Australia will no longer support the abuse of its children by such easy accessibility of pornographic and violent material.

The Australian Broadcasting "watchdog" and how to contact them

Australian Broadcasting Tribunal (ABT) when we first arrived in Australia insisted that there was “nothing on Australian television, at any time day or night, that was indecent, obscene or blasphemous”.TV Channels had to publicly renew their licenses every year and that was what the chairman of the ABT told my wife Margaret at public hearings in Melbourne.

Then they changed their name to the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) and took Fat Cat off the air because it was not a realistic presentation of an animal (Fat Cat wore pants!).for some reason they left Mr Ed on the air!the talking horse? Now they call themselves the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

ACTION: Keep our “Action Procedure Manual” handy and use it.  Always request a reply! It’s so easy to become desensitised, but “do not grow weary in well-doing for in due time, if we faint not, we shall reap.”

100% Success against  Playboy and Penthouse

With all of the govt agencies, hundreds of public servants, office buildings, bureaucrats, etc, the best way we have found to be successful against those who are further attempting to corrupt our culture is with the advertisers – those who pay for the TV shows, magazines, etc.  100% of the advertisers we have targeted with boycott campaigns in Australian Playboy and Penthouse have cancelled their ads!  We have had them removed from the largest chains of retailers in Australia with organised or threatened boycott campaigns.  Australian Playboy no longer exists because we made it unaffordable for them to continue to print their smut sheet!

The TV shows don’t necessarily care about your daughters they care about your dollars!  The Victorian Government commissioned a report by the Family and Community Development Committee in August of 1998.  It is entitled “The effects of Television & Multimedia on children and families in Victoria.  On Page 60 they quote an American researchers project on television’s impact on children.  It states, “Television is not about raising social consciousness or even representing a more or less accurate view of reality.  It is about selling people to an advertiser.”

Longtime AFF readers will know just how effective we have been by targeting the advertisers of offensive and inappropriate television.  We have had planned TV mini-series unable to secure sponsorship, we have had TV programs cancelled, we have had TV movies and big budget, national TV shows cancelled because we have targeted the advertisers – those who pay for the show to go to air.

ACTION: Show your disapproval and concern by making fast and effective complaints to TV stations and regulatory bodies. Not sure how to do that? Order multiple copies of our (donation only) valuable new resource: the "Action Procedure Manual". This gives full contact details for Australian broadcasters and broadcasting "watchdogs" such as the ACMA which regulates television. Keep this next to your computer, phone or desk, and next time you see something on TV that is inappropriate, tell them! What you see appearing on television in your homes is whatever you and I allow.

 Vodafone...or Vodafilth?

Bringing mobile phone-based smut to the masses is a billion dollar business, but many mobile phone operators aren’t buying into that business as  readily as Vodafone. Already, Europe is steeped in tens of millions of dollars worth of mobile porn, with Vodafone a major provider (dubbed Vodafilth in Britain).

The Australian (28 March 2006) reports that Vodafone is expected to begin offering similar services to adult subscribers in Australia in October or November. Under Australian regulations, Vodafone could offer services rated up to R18+.

ACTION: Write to Vodafone and express you concern.  This is something we really do not want or need.  Are you prepared to switch mobile phone carriers?

“...we know that there were over 4,000 submissions [against RU486]. Of this number approx 2,000 will be regarded as "correspondence" because they addressed issues other than  therapeutic aspects. Another 1,000 were "form" letters and will also be disregarded. These 3,000 "submissions" were all against making RU486 available. 1,100 were regarded as legimate submissions. 1,000 approx were against RU486, 100 for it, a ratio of 10 to 1. Given the overall total, the ratio was 40 to 1.”   source: NaCl  http://nacl.com.au
